Karen, You won't remember me but I thought I would share something (what I consider) interesting. I met you in Florida at the Million Dollar Brain Seminar. It was held in February 2004. I come from a banking background and have always worked as an originator under that premise. At the time, my loan volume was so down that I had a heart-to-heart with my MI rep. She went back to her office and came up with some ideas & one of them was > the Brain Seminar. It was expensive & I had never spent any money in my career like that before, but I was going to invest in it regardless of whether the bank was going to pick it up or not. Amazingly they did. But the bigger story is that the seminar opened my eyes to a much broader world of lending & professionalism. Here I am 3 1/2 years later & I have changed banking jobs & went to a new bank & have been helping with day-to-day issues at the bank & am originating. I joined Loantoolbox & I have hired a mortgage coach. And this month I will be on stage along with > two other originators with one of my icons...Greg Frost...because I entered a contest talking about my "Flawless Business Plan." I hesitated to even enter it because I am so new to all of this & I am FARRRRRR from flawless, but what I did do was tell them where I came from & what I've done so far. Came in as a Loan Officer, Left as a Mortgage Diva!
What a fabulous event!!! It was absolutely unbelievable. I wish every woman on this site could have come and shared with those of us that went. From the first morning when we all came in, not knowing each other, Karen was the perfect hostess. She really set the stage for making us comfortable as women to follow our natural inclination to help. And that is what happened, by the end of the three days there was so much helping and sharing ideas it was just unbelievable!
I do want to take a moment to explain something that happened for me that will stick with me for a long time. On the first morning, Karen handed out tiara's for all of us as a symbol of our being mortgage divas. The first speaker Debbie Allen (who is a tremendous speaker and if you've never heard her you need to) talked about Shameless Self Promotion. It really struck me. Some of us don't always like to draw attention to ourselves, or we may be timid about approaching people with our business. For me, the tiara was an opportunity to practice shameless self promotion. I wore my tiara all weekend long as a symbol. It broke my mold, it made me take a risk. Who wears a tiara around a resort in AZ or even at the airport or on the plane ride home?!
Because of taking that risk, I created 2 more opportunities to tell people what I do. That's what I needed to walk away with, being bold enough to create opportunities for myself.
When times are lean, we have to try new things, we have to be bold, we have to think out of the box. This might sound silly, but when I'm having a tough day or even a great day putting the tiara on is my symbol and reminder that I am a mortgage diva and I have the power to make things happen!

If you haven't used Karen's client newsletter (as part of a subscription to LoanOfficerMagazine.com) that she posted about 2-3 weeks ago, I would highly encourage getting it printed and mailing it out.
I work with my husband and we mailed it out over a week ago to our client database and Realtors. The front page article - Top 5 Questions People Ask Me About Housing And The Economy was written in a positive and objective matter.
As of today we have had 10 pre-quals in less than a week - 4 referrals from previous customers and 6 from Realtors.
